R3Water - resources efficiency, reuse and recovery in urban wastewater treatment

February 2014

The R3Water project provides innovative solutions for urban wastewater treatment. The aim is to demonstrate solutions that increase resource efficiency, enable reuse of treated wastewater and facilitate the recovery valuables, such as nutrients. The project is funded by European Union and with a budget of 7.8 M€.

R3Water will develop innovative technologies to facilitate the transition of wastewater treatment plants into a production unit:
· Resource efficient treatment (e.g. energy efficiency by improved aeration and optimised process control).
· Facilitating water reuse (e.g. reliable quality compliance by improved monitoring).
· Recycling nutrients and other valuables (e.g. by valorisation of sludge).

To foster market uptake the technology solutions will be demonstrated at 3 sites (Belgium, Spain, Sweden).

The consortium, led by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, involves 12 technological partners from seven European countries, being Adasa one of these members. Its kick off was held on11-13th February 2014 in Stockholm/Sweden, where the next steps for challenging development tasks and demonstration activities were set up.
